RSS Feed/News Using FA as prefixes, how do I hide text on the forum but not in the drop-down menu at selection? Is a tool tip a better option?

Scenario:

I would like the drop down menu to have both FA and text describing the subject of the thread. But, on the forum itself, I'd like for only the FA symbol to appear.

I've considered a tool tip on each might be a cleaner option. I've yet to find an example of someone writing and installing a tool tip for something like this.

Suggestions or thoughts, anyone?
