RSS Feed/News Posting in a Moderated Forum - allowing Exceptions for certain users

In our forum, we have a set of nodes under a category that require moderation (ie a moderator needs to approve posts before becoming publicly viewable). What we are trying to achieve is the ability for certain users to be able to post in those nodes without moderator approval. I tried to create a new usergroup in which I set "Submit Content without approval" to yes and assigned those users to the newly created usergroup.
