RSS Feed/News Forced to change email due to bounces, but emails were all being received.

I received a notification inside the XenForo forum (here) which said my emails were essentially bouncing, and so I have to change my email address. The thing is, I have been receiving them all along - never going to spam, either - and all I did is use the same email address with a + designation, and the confirmation all came through, and I am still receiving emails.

I use gmail.

I feel as though the bounce handler must be incorrectly applying bounces?
