Though the skin is the largest organ of the body in terms of surface area, the intestines are much larger in area if we flatten them out and measure them. The skin covers approximately 20 square feet in an average adult while the intestines (both small and large) have an estimated surface area of about 2,700 square feet - roughly the size of a tennis court!
