RSS Feed/News updating custom field

I added a custom area when signing up. New members cannot register without marking this field and it is nice. However, I want old members to update this private field. How can I follow a way to ensure that the user goes to the profile page to update that special field, either before writing a message or with a warning when entering the forum?
