It seems even in XenForo 2.3+ there is a mixed use of both the HTML5 standard closing
Assuming since there is a combination of both closings being used currently on the same page there is likely no XHTML parsing going on, nor an attempt to stay compatible with older browsers that may not recognize the HTML5...
