RSS Feed/News message_macros template error?

I upgraded to the latest version and have an outdated template with message_macros template in both the default style and Bolt style. When I click merge, it tells me that there is an error - no previous version of the parent can be found.

Anyone have any idea what this could be? I've already reached out to Russ on the Bolt style but it is also happening with the default style.
