RSS Feed/News Member Custom User Field Search

At present, the best I can find is a mod that is a very based search field of member user fields. I'd like to create richer member profiles but if there is a limited ability to find data, then they are of very limited use IMHO. Might there be a way to leverage the creation of user fields and information generated to which I am not aware? I was only able to find a very basic addon that allowed for crude searching of these fields in the member area, which is much appreciated but not refined...
