RSS Feed/News image proxy cache - webp?

I have the proxy setup with a long cache lifetime (0 actually, stores forever). (too many dead image urls on old threads was a mistake).

Does or can the proxy run through the image optimizer before storing the cache image to disk?
If it doesn't, can a job be created to optimize the proxy cache?
