RSS Feed/News Bulk user upgrade

I know this is the wrong way to do things, but is there a way to bulk user upgrade individuals via query (or via user xml import / API call / etc)? I'm manipulating a rather wild data migration and I've had to result to populating some data without going through writing an import tool native to xenforo. While inserting the user into the xf_user_upgrade_active table is pretty straight forward, the problem is adding the user to the right group.
