I use this code in my extra.less template:

    border-left: 1px solid @xf-borderColorFaint;
    border-radius: @xf-borderRadiusSmall;
}

    background: @xf-contentAltBg;
    color: @xf-textColor;

Works fine but...
When you quote a message, the original version is displayed in the text editor...
